We're delighted that Andrew Copson Chief Executive of the British Humanist Association will come to speak on The Rise of Humanism. In his third visit to West Dorset, Andrew will explore the implications of Humanism and will describe the work of the British Humanist Association, to which West Dorset Humanists is affiliated.

April meeting of West Dorset Humanists

Next meeting

The next meeting of West Dorset Humanists will be held on Wednesday 27th February at 7.30om at The Wessex Royale Hotel, 32 High West Street, Dorchester.  Amy Waldon will talk on Humanist Chaplains in Prison. Amy will look at the inequalities faced by non-religious prisoners and how the British Humanist Association and HM Prison Service are seeking to address them through a pilot involving pastoral care at HMP Winchester. The talk is free with a suggested donation of £2.

David Croman will lead a lively, informative and illustrated talk on 'Charles Darwin - his life, ideas and influence. David is a local author, psychologist and wildlife photographer so it promises to be a fascinating evening. The talk is free but donations of £2 are welcome.

November meeting

The next meeting of West Dorset Humanists will be at 7.30 on Thursday November 29th, at the Wessex Royal Hotel, Dorchester.
The subject will be "Positive Psychology - The Science of Happiness".  Positive Psychology is founded on the belief that people want more than just an end to suffering. We want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, to cultivate what is best within ourselves, and to enhance our experiences of love, work, and play.  In this interactive session, David will explore scientifically tested ideas and techniques for increasing our happiness and overall sense of well-being, drawing on the work of Positive Psychology pioneers such as Martin Seligman.
